A-Gallery, the spacious art gallery in the Jordaan (300m2), offers not only continuously changing exhibitions, but also a unique walk-in cabinet with Ethnographic art. The Spirit Room is an exclusive room of silence, which reveals remarkable Ethnographic art. The Spirit Room holds exceptional pieces of art obtained in Africa, Oceania and the Asmat region in West Papua and therefore has a very strange and wonderful ambience.
One can say The Spirit Room is a unique phenomenon in the world of art galleries. It gives us the opportunity to distance ourselves from the hectic life and to get lost in an unusual language of images. The A-Gallery has become a public meeting point for art admirers and (young) pioneers, and so has The Spirit Room. Everybody is invited to this unique setting of art in the very heart of Amsterdam.
If you like to hear further explanation and details about The Spirit Room, you can easily make an appointment with ethnographic devotee and owner Jan de Goede. Of course the owner of the A-Gallery, Joop de Boers, knows a couple of stories too. For instance, he can tell you all about the journeys De Goede undertook to isolated areas in West Papua. De Goede brought some woodcarvers from Papua to Amsterdam for six weeks to shape ancestor sculptures from fallen trees, found in the Vondelpark.
Behold and experience it now at the A-Gallery.
Open Friday and Saturday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The A-Gallery is located at Konijnenstraat, which is situated in the Jordaan. It’s a small street, parallel to Prinsengracht, between Elandstraat and Lauriergracht.
