The work of Robbert de Goede can be seen as wire frame studies. They are researches in space separation, rhythm, proportion and experience through movement.
The choice to work with wires was made to create open volumes without them blocking the sight of the initial space. This way one has better view of the construction of a space.
An important effect of working with wires is the difficulty one gets with focusing. The viewer has to make a good effort to really see all aspects of the work. One has to walk around it to see what is going on and what planes are crossing. This way one gets more aware of one’s position in relation to the work, getting more conscious of the preferred point of view.
When one tries to focus on crossing wires one gets a bit dizzy. This counts for an even bigger awareness of one’s relation to the work, creating a physical relationship with the work instead of just being a static viewer.
Another part of Robbert’ work is the experience of a sense of speed. When one moves around the works the density of the wires changes, when more wires a line the red becomes more intense, giving it a more forceful experience.
Some of his works can be seen as three dimensional paintings, others as spatial structures.
All work is scale-related and therefore site-specific in relation to the box they house in. They can not simply be enlarged to fill a larger space, since a big part of the character of the works is the density of the wires and ones physical relation to the size of the chosen volumes.
If from anybody, Robbert de Goedes inspiration comes from the great minimalists. Both sculptors as wel as painters: Serra, Judd, Reinhardt, Lewitt. As well as architects like Khan, Barragan, Pawson, Ando, Niemeijer.
However, through the making-process his work derives from wireframe models in architecture software and is therefore strongly related to present time.
